Recently, Geophysicists at Caltech have created a new method for determining earthquake hazards. They applied this new method to the fault underneath Los Angeles found the strongest earthquake is likely to occur along between 6.8 and 7.1 and a magnitude 6.8 about 50% stronger than the 1994 Northridge earthquake can occur every 300 years.
