Washington state’s first statewide inventory of brick and stone structures built before 1958, have found that Whatcom County has 218 buildings  at risk of collapsing during a major earthquake. John Gargett, deputy director of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Division of Emergency Management said, “It would be a massive effort to bring every building up to modern earthquake codes.”
