Apartment Owners Learn How to Protect Their Properties and Tenants.
Some 50 members of the Apartment Association of Orange County attended an informational workshop conducted by Optimum Seismic, Inc. on Nov. 19 about how property owners can have seismic retrofitting improvements performed to protect their rental property investments and tenants.
In addition to more cities throughout California either implementing or considering adoption of local retrofitting ordinances, state law will soon require all multifamily properties to undergo structural safety inspections of their decks, balconies, stairways, and more.
Property owners and managers were able to hear the facts about seismic retrofitting and explore the best course of action for their rental properties. Key topics covered included:
- Soft story buildings and the importance of seismic retrofitting
- Provisions of current seismic retrofitting ordinances coming
- Areas of structural vulnerability on apartment buildings
- The types of buildings that can be retrofitted and what is involved
- Reasons to Retrofit – Protect your residents, staff, and investment while avoiding liability
- The cost of of seismic retrofitting and financing alternatives
- Deck, balcony and stairway inspections – Getting ready for the SB 721 compliance deadline
