Resources and Support for Wildfire Recovery

Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by the devastating wildfires across Los Angeles. We stand in solidarity with affected communities and extend our gratitude to the brave responders working tirelessly to protect lives and property.

To assist those in need, FEMA has opened two disaster recovery centers in Los Angeles and Pasadena. These centers provide critical resources, including guidance on federal assistance applications, updates, and the appeals process.

Locations:

  • UCLA Research Park West: 10850 West Pico Boulevard
  • Pasadena City College Community Education Center: 3035 East Foothill Boulevard

The centers are open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, you can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov.

Did the 2024 magnitude 7.0 Cape Mendocino earthquake trigger aftershocks on the San Andreas?

On the morning of Thursday, Dec. 5, at 10:44 a.m. local time (Dec. 5, 18:44 UTC), a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck offshore Northern California, about 100 kilometers (about 60 miles) west of the town of Ferndale, where a magnitude 6.4 event struck in 2022. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude 7.0 strike-slip event occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6 miles).

Preliminary magnitude 3.7 quake strikes near San Francisco Zoo

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.7 shook San Francisco Bay Area residents awake on Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological .The earthquake struck at 7:02 a.m., just 3 miles northwest of the San Francisco Zoo. The shake had a depth of 5.2 miles and no injuries have been reported.

A tsunami advisory has now been lifted after an earlier warning in the wake of a strong earthquake Monday off the coast of Japan’s Miyazaki Prefecture, officials said.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the quake’s preliminary magnitude at 6.8. The Japan Meteorological Agency said it had an intensity of lower 5 on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7.

5.8-magnitude earthquake shakes El Salvador; no initial reports of damage

A strong earthquake drove frightened residents of El Salvador’s capital into the streets Thursday morning, but there was no immediate report of damage or deaths.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude at 5.8. The epicenter was 5 miles (9 kilometers) east of Acajutla at a depth of 59 miles (95 kilometers).

Earthquake in Tibet kills over 100 people

A strong earthquake killed at least 126 people in Tibet on Tuesday and left many others trapped as dozens of aftershocks shook the region of western China and across the border in Nepal. The official Xinhua News Agency said 126 people were killed and at least 188 other injured in Tibet.
About 1,500 fire and rescue workers were deployed to search for people in the rubble, the Ministry of Emergency Management said. More than 1,000 homes were damaged in the barren and sparsely populated region, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported. Video posted by CCTV showed building debris littering streets and crushed cars.
