A year ago, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northwestern Syria, resulting in over 59,000 lives lost and extensive damage. Rebuilding efforts continue, with approximately 680,000 homes affected. The international response, though substantial, faced challenges in accessibility and resources. As we remember this event, we reflect on the resilience of those affected. Looking forward, it prompts consideration on how to better prepare for future seismic events, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures and community resilience in the face of natural disasters.
Take proactive steps to safeguard your building, business income, and equity by exploring earthquake retrofits. Optimum Seismic is here to help – contact us at (323) 605-0000 or visit www.optimumseismic.com to learn more. .

Cascadia earthquake turns 324
January 26, 2024, marks the 324th anniversary of the last Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake — a massive magnitude 9 quake spanning Northern California to British Columbia.
With Cascadia earthquakes expected every 300-500 years, researchers are using geographic clues from the ancient quake to prepare for the next tremor.

Why Retrofits, Like Seatbelts, Should Not Be Taken Lightly
People often reference the Northridge earthquake of 1994 when they speak about seismic disasters. After all, it’s something many of us experienced first-hand: an event that we can relate to.
The 6.7-magnitude thrust of the quake rattled Southern California a mere 10 to 20 seconds and caused $67 billion in widespread damage.
