Celebrating the season of giving
Happy Holidays! This is one of my favorite times of year. Community takes center stage in our lives as we attend school performances, participate in local food drives, and volunteer for charity events.
It always builds a sense of connection for me — and that strengthens the sense of purpose that carries over into our daily interactions with others.
We smile more. Take time to acknowledge one another. We give of our time, our hearts, and whatever resources we can provide to help others.
The entire Optimum Seismic team wishes you and yours the happiest of holiday seasons — an joy, peace and good health in the New Year.
Thank you for being a part of our community of friends.
YMCA-LA needs your donations now

Rising food costs, job cutbacks, reduced work schedules, and other pressures, are making food insecurity a stubborn fact of life for more than 800,000 Los Angeles County households — nearly a quarter of the total (24%) in Los Angeles County.

Clients can use the models to understand the risk of these events for individual properties, because they include data about the built environment.

British Columbia looks to future of seismic resilience
Hoping to prevent an earthquake catastrophe, British Columbia is looking to seismic resilience to minimize impacts and save lives. Speakers at a recent conference cited a huge financial incentive to think about resilience now, noting that FEMA research shows there is $6 to $10 saved in post-earthquake losses for every $1 invested in seismic upgrades. Other estimates are much higher.

Japan works to mitigate threats of natural disaster
Based on hard-won lessons, Japan has strongly emphasized the importance of disaster prevention to the world. Currently, approximately 96% of the world’s Official Development Assistance allocated to disaster-related activities is for post-disaster recovery, while only 4% is allocated to disaster risk reduction. “Reversing this equation is the only way disasters won’t devastate anymore,” one official said.
